Product description

More frame rigidity and force headroom for industrial specimens

The Double-Column Universal Testing Machine is a configurable platform for laboratories and manufacturers that need more force capacity, frame space or rigidity than a compact single-column system can provide. Depending on the selected configuration, it can perform tensile, elongation, compression, peel, tear, bending and shear tests, with application-specific grips and software selected for the material and method.

The range is suitable for larger packaging specimens, cartons, drums and hollow containers; plastic, rubber and hose materials; cable and wire; plastic pipe; metal sheet, rod, wire and other industrial specimens. It can also be considered for automotive, electrical/electronic or aerospace material coupons when the customer’s force, fixture, accuracy, extensometry and method requirements are confirmed. It is not a substitute for a complete automotive, electrical, battery, chemical, aerospace or medical qualification program.

For heavy metal or structural work requiring hundreds of kilonewtons and tensile/compression/bending/shear capability, ask TestLabs about a hydraulic/high-load configuration. HD-B616 has 300/600/1,000 kN customizable maximum force, while a separate horizontal HD-B612-5S page reports 500 kN and contains a conflicting force-range line. These values require written technical clarification before publication or quotation.

Industry applications

Polymer, plastics, rubber and packaging

Select a compact-to-medium double-column configuration for films, flexible packaging, tape, rubber, paper, cartons, bags, drums, hollow containers, plastic hose or other materials where additional frame rigidity, width or force is needed. The HD-B604-S family is reported at 5–2,000 kg with 0.1–500 mm/min and approximately 1,200 mm vertical space, but related pages reuse the model name and specifications. Confirm the exact frame, force range and fixture before purchase.

Metals, wire, cable and pipe

The higher-force configurations are appropriate starting points for metal, steel, plastic pipe, wire, cable, sheet, rod, screws and larger industrial specimens when the grip and expected load are known. Haida’s 10T page names metal, steel and plastic pipe; its 30T page names metal/steel sheet, rod, wire and screw applications. Confirm specimen dimensions, grip pressure, extensometer need, test speed, force range and standard.

Automotive

For automotive material coupons, cable, plastics, rubber, adhesives, wire or finished-component mechanical tests, select the frame by actual load and geometry. TestLabs’ automotive positioning supports a consultative enquiry, but a generic universal machine does not automatically perform door-lock, seatbelt-anchor, dynamic, fatigue, electrical or whole-vehicle qualification. Dedicated part-testing platforms and customer/OEM methods may be required.

Electronics, electrical, semiconductor and battery-related materials

A double-column machine may support mechanical tests on cable, wire, foil, insulation, adhesive films, packaging or selected component materials. Haida’s reviewed pages do not prove IEC, UL, IPC, battery-safety or semiconductor qualification, nor do they establish a particular connector/terminal grip. Confirm whether the customer needs material loading only or a separate electrical, thermal, reliability or abuse test.

Medical and pharmaceutical materials/components

A double-column configuration may be suitable for larger or higher-force medical-material specimens, seals, tubing, packaging or component assemblies if the grip and method are appropriate. Haida also publishes dedicated low-force needle-penetration and catheter/connection instruments; do not merge those capabilities into this universal-machine page. No reviewed source proves cleanroom suitability, medical-device certification or pharmaceutical compliance. Confirm the product standard, fixture, conditioning, traceability and report outputs.

Aerospace and structural materials

Potential applications include tensile, compression, bending, shear or other mechanical tests on metal, wire, sheet, polymer or composite coupons. The page must not imply aerospace certification. Confirm exact aerospace standard, extensometer, accuracy, calibration, fixtures, safety and traceability before recommending a configuration.

When to choose this product

Choose the Double-Column Universal Testing Machine when the specimen is larger, heavier, wider or more rigid; when the application involves cable, wire, pipe, metal, steel, larger packaging or industrial components; when force may exceed the practical single-column range; or when compression, bending, shear or higher-force clamping is central to the program.

For many lower-force films, papers, tapes, flexible packaging, polymers and smaller medical-material specimens, link to the Single-Column Universal Testing Machine. Do not choose by industry name alone. Choose from specimen, maximum force, dimensions, speed, method and fixture requirements.

Single-Column Universal Testing Machine FAQs

Single-Column Universal Testing Machine FAQs

What is a single-column universal testing machine used for?

A single-column universal testing machine applies controlled force to measure properties such as tensile strength, elongation, peel force, tear force, puncture force, adhesive strength, pull-out force, compression or bending. The exact test depends on the load cell, fixture, travel, measurement system and method configuration.

Should I choose a single-column or double-column machine?

Choose the single-column configuration for many lower-to-medium-force film, paper, tape, polymer, rubber, textile and smaller medical-material tests. Choose the double-column configuration when the specimen is larger, wider, heavier, more rigid or requires higher force, larger span, compression/bending/shear fixtures or hydraulic clamping. TestLabs can confirm the selection from your specimen details.

Can the machine test plastics, rubber and polymer materials?

Yes, a suitable configuration may test plastic films, hose sections, rubber, non-woven materials, tapes, packaging and other polymer specimens. The correct load cell, grip, travel, speed and method must be confirmed for the particular specimen.

Can it test paper and packaging?

Yes, configurations can be specified for paper, board, film, flexible packaging, labels, tapes and related materials. Carton, drum, burst, drop, vibration or compression programs may require additional dedicated packaging equipment rather than a tensile test alone.

Can it test medical materials or devices?

It may test selected medical films, patches, seals, tubing or component materials when the force range, fixture and method are suitable. A generic universal tester is not automatically a medical-device, pharmaceutical, cleanroom or regulatory-compliance system. Dedicated needle or catheter methods may require dedicated instruments.

Can it test automotive, electronics or battery products?

It may support mechanical testing of suitable material coupons, films, adhesives, cable, wire, plastics or selected components. It does not automatically perform complete automotive qualification, electrical safety, battery abuse, semiconductor reliability or other specialised tests. Confirm the customer’s exact method and scope.

Which standards does it support?

Haida source pages cite ASTM, ISO, JIS, BS/BS EN, EN, SAE, FTM and other references, including examples such as ASTM D882, ASTM D638/ISO 527-1/2, ASTM D3330, ASTM D624, ISO 178/ASTM D790 and ASTM D659. Exact standard edition, fixture, speed, specimen preparation, extensometer, calibration and report scope must be confirmed for the selected configuration. A listed reference is not a blanket certification claim.

Are grips and software included?

They depend on the configuration and quotation. Some Haida pages list tensile clamps, PC/software, printer, extensometer or manuals, while other pages do not. Send a specimen drawing and required method so TestLabs can provide a written inclusion schedule.

What information should I send for a quotation?

Send the material/product, specimen dimensions, expected force, test type, speed, standard or internal method, required travel, fixture details, temperature/conditioning, power, location and data-output requirements. A photo, drawing or sample is highly useful.
