IPX3/IPX4 Water Spray and Splash Test Chamber Supplier in Malaysia

IPX3/IPX4 rain spray chamber with oscillating tube and sample table

What Are IPX3 and IPX4 Water Tests?

IPX3 and IPX4 are liquid-protection levels within the IP code used to describe enclosure protection against water. Under the applicable test method, IPX3 evaluates protection against water spray directed at angles up to 60 degrees from the vertical, while IPX4 evaluates protection against splashing water from different directions. IEC 60529 defines the IP code and the tests used to verify enclosure protection; the exact test conditions should always be confirmed for the product being evaluated.

IPX3 and IPX4 water test comparison
Test level Plain-language description Typical equipment function
IPX3 Protection against water spray directed up to 60 degrees from the vertical under the applicable test method. Oscillating spray tube and controlled water supply.
IPX4 Protection against splashing water from different directions under the applicable test method. Wider oscillating spray coverage together with sample rotation, as required by the selected configuration.

Technical note: IPX3/IPX4 test conditions are not interchangeable with product certification. Confirm the required standard, specimen orientation, exposure time, water flow and acceptance criteria before final equipment selection. See the IEC IP ratings overview for general background.

The IPX3/IPX4 water spray test chamber is used to evaluate the resistance of electrical and electronic enclosures to water spray and splashing during ingress protection testing. TestLabs supplies HAIDA IPX3/IPX4 rain spray test chamber solutions for product development, quality control and verification work in Malaysia, Singapore and across Asia.

Applications for IPX3/IPX4 Rain Spray Testing

The chamber can be used to support water-ingress evaluation of electrical and electronic products, enclosures, components, materials and spare parts. Typical applications include outdoor lighting, vehicle lamps, signal devices, electrical housings, consumer products and other equipment that may be exposed to rain or splashing water during use.

Typical applications include:

• Electrical and electronic enclosures

• Outdoor lighting and vehicle lamps

• Signal devices and control housings

• Product components, materials and spare parts

• Product development, quality control and verification testing

Key Features of the IPX3/IPX4 Test Chamber

The IPX3/IPX4 chamber combines controlled water delivery with adjustable mechanical movement so the test specimen can be exposed to a repeatable spray or splash condition. The final configuration should be matched to the specimen dimensions and the customer’s required test method.

  • Controlled spray parameters

  • Rain time, interval time and rainfall intensity can be regulated through the control system according to the selected test setup.

  • Oscillating spray tube

  • The spray system supports configured swing angles including ±45°, ±60°, ±90° and ±180° theoretical ranges. The applicable angle and movement profile should be confirmed against the required test method.

  • Rotating sample table

  • The sample table rotates at approximately 1 r/min in the listed configuration, helping expose the specimen from multiple directions. Confirm the required speed range and loading arrangement before ordering.

  • Clear specimen observation

  • A large toughened-glass observation door allows operators to monitor the specimen during the test while keeping the test area enclosed.

  • Water supply and filtration

  • The system includes a water supply arrangement, booster pump, storage tank and water filter to support the spray process and help protect the water path from impurities.

  • Programmable control and safety protection

  • The programmable controller supports test timing and sequence control. Listed safety functions include leakage protection, short-circuit protection and motor-overheating protection.

  • Configuration support

  • TestLabs can review customization requirements based on the specimen size, test method, laboratory layout, power supply and delivery location.

The following values are the specifications currently listed for this TestLabs product page. Final values may vary by chamber configuration. Please confirm the required test standard and specimen dimensions with TestLabs before quotation and production.

Chamber Construction and Control System

The chamber uses a stainless-steel exterior and stainless-steel inner container for a durable, water-exposed test environment. A large viewing door supports visual observation of the specimen during testing. The listed configuration includes a 270-degree swing-pipe arrangement, a 360-degree rotating water-jet device and a speed-adjustable sample table.

The control system provides programmable timing and sequence control. Frequency-converter speed control is used to manage the configured movement of the spray system, while a flow gauge supports water-flow monitoring. A water filter is included in the chamber water system. TestLabs will confirm the final controls, dimensions, electrical requirements and accessories according to the project specification.

Frequently Asked Questions About IPX3/IPX4 Test Chambers

What is an IPX3/IPX4 water spray test chamber?

An IPX3/IPX4 water spray test chamber is equipment used to expose an enclosure or product specimen to controlled water spray and splashing conditions for liquid-ingress protection testing. The chamber typically combines an oscillating spray tube, water supply and filtration, a sample table, programmable timing and safety protection.

What is the difference between IPX3 and IPX4 testing?

IPX3 evaluates protection against water spray directed up to 60 degrees from the vertical under the applicable test method. IPX4 evaluates protection against splashing water from different directions. The required spray angle, movement, exposure time, water flow and acceptance criteria must be confirmed against the applicable product standard.

What products can be tested in an IPX3/IPX4 chamber?

Typical applications include electrical and electronic enclosures, outdoor lighting, vehicle lamps, signal devices, control housings, components, materials and spare parts. The specimen size, weight, shape and test method determine whether the listed chamber configuration is suitable.

Can the IPX3/IPX4 chamber be customized?

Customization can be reviewed for requirements such as specimen size, spray-ring radius, sample-table arrangement, control functions, power supply and laboratory layout. Send the specimen dimensions, required test level and applicable standard to sales@testlabs.my so TestLabs can confirm the suitable configuration.

Does an IPX3/IPX4 chamber certify my product?

No. The chamber provides controlled test conditions; it does not by itself certify a product. Product compliance depends on the applicable standard, the complete test procedure, the specimen preparation, the test result and the requirements of the relevant customer, authority or certification body.

What information should I provide when requesting a quotation?

Provide the product type, specimen dimensions, approximate weight, required IPX3/IPX4 test level, applicable standard or test method, power supply, delivery location and any customization or installation requirements. This allows TestLabs to assess the chamber configuration more efficiently.
