Multi-Mode Corrosion Testing Capabilities
To meet the diverse quality assurance needs of Malaysian industrial hubs, our test chambers easily transition between multiple accelerated corrosion testing modes:
1. Neutral Salt Spray (NSS)
The standard testing method for evaluating corrosion resistance of protective coatings, electroplating, and anodized surfaces. It utilizes a 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution with a neutral pH range of 6.5 to 7.2 at a chamber temperature of 35°C.
2. Acetic Acid Salt Spray (AASS)
By adding glacial acetic acid to the salt solution, the pH is lowered to an acidic range of 3.1 to 3.3. This accelerated test is highly effective for decorative coatings of copper/nickel/chromium or anodic coatings on aluminum.
3. Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray (CASS)
An extremely aggressive corrosion test designed for electroplated copper/nickel/chromium coatings. It utilizes copper chloride (CuCl2) in the acidic salt solution, operated at 50°C, to rapidly simulate harsh marine and industrial environments.
Regional Industrial Applications in Malaysia
We tailor our corrosion testing solutions to match the localized engineering demands of Malaysia's leading manufacturing zones:
Penang Semiconductor & Electronics Cluster: Our high-precision chambers help wafer fabrication and electronic component manufacturers in the Prai Industrial Estate and Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone test integrated circuits, connectors, and micro-assemblies against tropical humidity and atmospheric salt corrosion.
Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Automotive Hub: We supply Shah Alam and Balakong automotive component manufacturers with robust ASTM B117 compliant chambers to test automotive body panels, fasteners, and under-chassis coatings.
Johor Heavy Engineering & Electronics Zone: Serving the Pasir Gudang and Tanjung Langsat industrial hubs, our chambers assist heavy engineering and metal plating companies in verifying marine-grade coatings and structural steel durability.
Negeri Sembilan Manufacturing Hub: Supporting the Senawang Industrial Area, we provide rapid after-sales maintenance and calibration services for consumer appliance and hardware manufacturers.
Frequently Asked Questions About Salt Spray Test Chambers
What is a salt spray test chamber used for?
A salt spray test chamber exposes metal panels, coated components and finished parts to a controlled salt-fog environment. It is used for corrosion-resistance evaluation, coating-quality checks, surface-treatment verification, supplier qualification and production quality control. The exact specimen preparation, exposure period and evaluation method should follow the applicable product or customer specification.
Which standards and test modes can the chamber support?
The current TestLabs offering is presented for test programs using ASTM B117 and ISO 9227 terminology, with configurations for Neutral Salt Spray (NSS), Acetic Acid Salt Spray (AASS) and Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray (CASS). Confirm the required standard edition, solution chemistry, temperature, specimen arrangement and evaluation criteria before ordering.
Which chamber capacity should I choose?
TestLabs lists 108 L, 270 L, 480 L, 800 L and custom chamber configurations. The right capacity depends on specimen dimensions, the number of specimens tested together, rack layout, clearance requirements and the laboratory workflow. Send the largest specimen size, quantity and preferred loading arrangement when requesting a quotation.
Can one chamber perform NSS, AASS and CASS testing?
Some configurations can support more than one salt-spray mode, but the required solution system, temperature control, materials, cleaning procedure and accessories must be confirmed for the selected model. Tell TestLabs which modes are required so the quotation can identify the suitable configuration and operating requirements.
What information should I include in a quotation request?
Include the required test method or customer standard, specimen dimensions, specimen quantity, expected exposure duration, preferred chamber capacity, delivery city, available electrical supply, installation requirements, training needs and any data-recording or customization requirements. A complete request helps the engineering team recommend a more suitable configuration.
Does salt-spray exposure time equal a specific number of years outdoors?
No. There is no universal conversion between salt-spray hours and outdoor service life. Salt-spray methods create a controlled laboratory environment, and the result depends on the material, coating, specimen preparation, test conditions and evaluation criteria. Use the exposure duration specified by the applicable product standard or customer requirement rather than treating it as a direct lifetime prediction.
What local support does TestLabs provide?
TestLabs provides quotation support and technical coordination for customers in Penang, Selangor, Johor and Kuala Lumpur. The current offering also states one-year manufacturer warranty, operator training and on-site or online technical support. Confirm the precise installation, calibration, maintenance and warranty scope in the final quotation and purchase documentation.
