Salt Spray Test, Salt Fog Test, Cyclic Corrosion Test
The salt spray test (salt fog test) is a consistent and common corrosion test method. It is widely used to examine the degree of corrosion resistance of surface coatings and materials. The test is designed to test metallic materials that have surface coating meant to offer added corrosion resistance to the coated metal, however, polymers can also be tested. Salt fog test method is an enhanced corrosion test that is used to corrode the coated samples so as to comparatively examine how suitable the coating is for addition as a protective layer. After a pre-determined time period, an analysis is conducted on the appearance of the products of corrosion which include rust and other oxides. The test duration is determined by the coating’s level of corrosion resistance. Consequently, as the coating’s level of corrosion resistant increases, the longer the test duration before corrosion or rust is observed. The salt spray test is among the most common and highly proven corrosion tests.
Salt spray test or cyclic corrosion test are carried out according to international standard IEC 60068-2-11, IEC 60068-2-52 and military standard MIL-STD-810-G or customized requirement. In our laboratory, your products are tested and evaluated to stringent standards, this bring your product from development to end use faster and more cost-effectively.
